Sonic Babe Of The Month - November 2005

Name: Wendy

What made you get into Rock N' Roll?

Duh, to get laid! Well, I guess like Gina Gershon (or was it Drea DeMatteo) says in Prey For Rock'n Roll, "Chicks don't need to be in a band to get laid." I was a "Disco Kid" in the late 70's... I had the black satin body suit with that phrase in silver glitter letters across the front to prove it. Then in 5th grade, I bought AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds", and my life was changed forever. Never looked back!

What was your first rock concert and what was the experience like for you?

My first concert was Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle" tour in '83. Don't really remember much! Except I LOVE Joe Perry!

What is your five all time favorite albums (CDs)?

I like this question a lot better than having to choose one. Here it goes (in no particular order)
1 - AC/DC - "Powerage"
2 - Aerosmith - "Night in the Ruts"
3 - Guns'n Roses - "Appetite for Destruction"
4 - Nazereth - "Razamanaz"
5 - Hollywood Brats - s/t

Who are your five favorite bands?

1 - AC/DC
2 - Aerosmith
3 - NY Dolls
4 - Rolling Stones
5 - Motorhead

What is your all time favorite song and why?

I don't have a favorite song...I like too many. I am partial, however, to "Ah Leah" by Donnie Iris!

Do you play an instrument? If so, what & how long? Also are you in a band, who is it?

Yes, I play guitar. I play bass and classical piano as well. I played guitar for a few years as a teenager, but I got frustrated with it and didn't play for a long time. I began playing bass in bands about 13 years ago, and then I picked up the guitar again seriously about 8 years ago. I've been playing every day since then, except when my hands or wrist hurt too bad.

I play lead guitar in a band in Hollywood called Cockpit - www.ilovecockpit.com. It's my first all-female band and it's awesome. I haven't been in the band that long, but it's going really well. We all seem to gel together. Total kick-ass 70's inpired hard rock! I just left Tucson, AZ, where I was in a band called Whiskey Bitch - www.whiskeybitch.com. We are putting out a 7" soon on Steel Cage Records, and will still do an occasional show. I also played in a punk rock band there called the Sophistifucks...total blood-soaked mayhem...and I used to play guitar and sing in The 440s.

If you can go back in time, who would you like to have seen perform live?

Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and the Stooges. Also all the old black Delta blues guys.

If you could put the ultimate rock show together with three bands, who would it be?

Cockpit, Turbonegro and Hammerlock!

Do you think there's any bands out today can make rock n' roll big in the mainstream again?

I would like to think so. I think kids are hungry for it. Just when I think there's no hope, I get e-mails from kids all over the world telling me how much they love rock'n roll! I hope that Cockpit is able to do that. Bands like the Darkness and Velvet Revolver and Brides of Destruction, though not my favorite bands, are still bringing rock to the masses, and people are responding. We need a revolution!

What do you think rock n' roll is missing today?

Sex! That, and an audience. Also good songs!

What is your definition rock n' roll?

Dirty, greasy, raw and dangerous. Music that speaks to the soul, not the intellect.

Any last words or thoughts about rock n roll?

It's given me a reason to live, and for that I owe it my life. Rock on!
